Inside
a Comvelope
The
bottom panel of each comvelope contains two random numbers
and their associated key check values. These components are
entered into the ATM to provide half of the key; two comvelopes
produce the complete key. An "A-key" and "B-key"
component are supplied to accommodate different ATM loading
procedures. For Triple-DES ATMs, all 32 characters provided
on the panel are used as the component. The key check value
for this Triple-DES key component is provided at the bottom
of the panel.
The
middle portion of the Comvelope contains the VRU phone number
and instructions for the ATM servicer to use when reporting
back to the A98. Each has a "Comvelope ID" which
identifies the component values to the A98 system. The actual
component is not reported, just this reference ID.
Using this reference, the A98 retrieves the components from
the database and builds the same key that now resides in the
ATM.
